Import Field Boundaries

Farm Dog supports multiple methods to add fields:

Configure Field Details

Add important information about each field. Learn field naming conventions in our best practices guide:

• Field Name: Use a clear naming convention (e.g., "Smith North 40")
• Farm Name: Group fields by farm or customer
• Crop Type: Current crop planted
• Planting Date: When the crop was seeded
• Variety/Hybrid: Specific seed variety information
• Acres: Automatically calculated from boundary

Start a New Scout Report

Navigate to the field you want to scout and tap "New Scout Report." Farm Dog will automatically capture:

• Current GPS location
• Date and time
• Weather conditions
• Crop growth stage

Add Observations

Record what you see in the field using our structured forms:

Capture Photos

Document your findings with geo-tagged photos. See our photo guidelines for best results:

• Take multiple angles of problem areas
• Include a reference object for scale
• Photos are automatically GPS-tagged
• Add captions to describe what's shown

Offline Mode Setup

Before heading to the field, ensure you're prepared for offline work:

• Download Field Data: Sync all field boundaries and recent reports
• Cache Map Tiles: Pre-download satellite imagery for your areas
• Enable Offline Mode: Toggle offline mode in settings
• Check Storage: Ensure adequate device storage space

Syncing Data

When you regain connectivity, Farm Dog automatically syncs your offline work:

• All scout reports upload in the background
• Photos are compressed and uploaded efficiently
• Sync status indicator shows progress
